My Son's Photos a Day Project |

Lately my 4 1/2 year-old son has been getting himself into trouble, a LOT. Time-outs at home and school for misbehaving, throwing tantrums and whining when he doesn't get what he wants, using "potty" words, etc. We've tried every punishment in the book along with trying rewarding him for good behavior, but in a few days he's right back at it again. I told him that he was going to turn 5 this Summer and going off to kindergarten so it was time for him to start acting like a big boy.
He loves my cameras and always asks if he can shoot one of them but he's kind of rough with things! I have let him hold and shoot one a couple of times and he gets all giddy like a kid in a candy store. Today I said to him (he was very good today and yesterday) that for every day that he didn't get into trouble or go to time-out that I would let him shoot photos with my D70. If he acted like a big boy he could do big boy stuff with me. This was his reaction:

So I tightened up the neck strap, checked to make sure it had a UV filter on it for protection, set the white balance and shooting mode to Auto and he started firing away! I used the Auto-Fix correction tool in the new Picnik software on flickr but the composition is all him.
Of course, there were 50 photos of the dog, another 30 probably of the TV, and handfuls of the floor, ceiling, and the back of the seat in the car.
He did get better handling it and zooming the barrel (18-50mm lens) while looking through the viewfinder towards the end of the day. Not bad for a kid who isn't in kindergarten yet!

Now I just have to hope he doesn't break it!
