On New Year's Eve nine years ago my wife and I were married. Not long after that my mother-in-law emailed us a comparison of our astrological signs showing how we are a great match. I'm not the kind of person that reads their horoscope every day, but I know what the stars say about Virgos and they pretty much dead-on describe my personality and traits. I could say the same for my wife, a Capricorn, and apparently the stars say we work well together. When she emailed this comparison I immediately printed it out and put it on the refrigerator next to our wedding photo where it remains to this day. How do you know when you have met your true love? Let me count the ways. "When Virgo and Capricorn join together in a love match, theirs is a pragmatic, smart relationship. Both Signs are highly rational, and both expect a lot of themselves and others." This is so true. We did join together in a love match! Wait, that's not the part I meant. Our relationship is full of practicality. We have always been really good at finding solutions to problems using practical measures - like that time we needed money to go to a friend's wedding in Las Vegas in 1997 and a guy driving a van plowed into the side of our car a few months earlier. It just so happened that the money the insurance company gave us was more than enough to cover our trip to Sin City! One might argue that the more practical scenario would have been to get the dents in the car repaired, but the dents did not affect the way the car drove and we were somewhat broke back then. A trip to Vegas with most of our close friends for a fun wedding was a pragmatic and smart thing to do at the time. That is just one example of how highly rational we are. We expect a lot of ourselves and the others really wanted us to go. "Virgo adores Capricorn's dedication and intensity, while Capricorn admires Virgo's intuition and attention to detail. Together they form a solid union based firmly in reality." If there is one person in this world that I adore the most for their dedication and intensity, it is certainly my wife. She has dedicated herself to going to graduate school while working and making time to spend with the kids and me. She also admires my intuition in the ways I find to expand my knowledge from home in front of this computer. My attention to detail comes in handy if the kitchen needs cleaning, the kids' toys need a straightening up, or when the coffeemaker begs for the perfect pot. Our union is definitely solid and our reality is as firm as my stance on eating sushi. She likes it. I shudder at the thought of raw fish going down my throat. "This relationship has a strong foundation that is based on material security and a realistic approach to life in general. These Signs don't let their emotions or impulses take over and you can count on both." Well, we do have a strong foundation that is based on material security. The house we bought six years ago is built on a concrete slab. We also both want what is best for our children and ourselves and that is a realistic approach to life. However, we do sometimes let our emotions or impulses take over (mainly me when I get the itch to sell a car and buy a new one), but try not to let it affect the ability to be counted on by others. We are loyal to one another and anyone else who deserves it. "Virgo can help Capricorn to relax a little and appreciate all they have worked to attain. Capricorn can help Virgo achieve goals and makes dreams a reality through initiation." If I had a nickel for every time I had to help my wife relax a little...OK, so I'm probably the main reason she needs to relax in the first place so it all evens out in the wash. We have had many talks about all that we have worked for, and are currently working for, to provide the best family our kids can grow up in being surrounded with love and encouragement. Our children will always be told that they can be whatever they want in life as long as they work hard at it. They might fail at certain times, just as we have and surely will again, but if they dream about being the President of the United States some day then we will assure them it could happen if they attempt to make that dream a reality. If they try and fail, we can praise them for the courage they had to try in the first place. "They live a very comfortable life together." Comfortable indeed.
