During our Thanksgiving trip to Waco, Texas, my aunt took us on a tour of the new Rapoport Academy campus at the old Paul Quinn College location. PQC was founded by a group of African Methodist Episcopal preachers in Austin, Texas, back in 1872 and moved to Waco in 1877. The school's home is now in Dallas, Texas. Read more about Paul Quinn College .

The Rapoport Academy is a charter school founded by my aunt back in 1998 with 16 elementary school students in the basement of a church building. The 2007 school year enrolled 311 students from pre-k to 10th grade and is growing steadily every year. With this increase in enrollment comes the need for more classroom space. That is where the old abandoned buildings of the former Paul Quinn College campus came into the picture. Currently there is a building being used for 5th-8th grades and another for 9th and 10th grades. Eventually the campus will hold all grades from 5th-12th with the renovations of more of the buildings as the funding comes in. Read more about the Rapoport Academy .

Old dilapidated structures are fun to explore and even more fun to photograph. There is so much facinating history in old buildings. Some of the Quinn Campus buildings are all boarded up and KEEP OUT signs are everywhere. There are a few there I would like to GO IN and poke around but did not get the chance last Friday during our group outing. I'll make it back up there and get more shots of the interiors one day. For now here are some of my photos from the outside of the Quinn Campus.

Personal attacks will be deleted? Oh, where is the fun in that?

You went to Waco? I should have told you about a few bloggy friends down there. Scott is the Cachinnator and runs the non-profit theater down there. You can see a link on my blog for his blog. You would like him, he is great.

Good pictures. That really looks like fun.

I've always loved photos of abandoned buildings, roads, things like that. Neat stuff.
