I was waiting to promote Uptake.com until I finished my first post there, which is finally done! Uptake is a travel search and discovery engine founded by Yen Lee, a former general manager of Yahoo! Here is more about Uptake from a press release that went out last week:
"In just six months since its public beta launch in May of this year, UpTake’s
travel search and discovery engine has grown exponentially. The travel
industry’s deepest and broadest database of hotels and attractions has surpassed
all other online travel search engines in terms of indexed sources, products,
and opinions. With this announcement, significant new industry partnerships and
$10 million in new funding secured, UpTake is thriving and growing in an economy
in which many start-ups are struggling.
Since its public
beta in May 2008, UpTake’s search engine has increased its total number of
indexed sources from 1,000 to 5,000 making its database of individual travel
sites nearly 10 times greater than any other travel search engine. The sources
indexed by UpTake include trusted sites like Expedia, Fodor’s, goCityKids,
TripAdvisor, Virtual Tourist and Yahoo! Travel."
The largest travel search engine! Pretty cool. Also pretty cool is that one of my blog friends, Whit Honea , asked me if I wanted to write (and post my own photos) on the Vacations Blog. Whit is the Travel Editor for Uptake and some of you may remember him from the first Interviews from the Daddyshack column I wrote at Quirkee.com . I am honored to have been asked to write about vacation destinations in Texas for Uptake! I was told the money wasn't going to be something I could retire on, but with traffic bonuses I have a shot at a sweet spot on a beach in Mexico swinging in a hammock and sipping margaritas by the time I turn fifty. (hint: spread the word about Uptake and click on my posts there!)
So without further adieu, here is my first post at Uptake.com about Zilker Park here in Austin. After reading my post go check out the other bloggers and leave some comment love!
