A few months ago our neighbor's daughter learned how to ride her bicycle without training wheels. Since then my son has been talking about taking his off but it's mostly been just that - talk. He decided that today was the day to give it a shot.
It has been a while since I have written anything. Sometimes, like many others, I get into a writing/blogging funk and have nothing good to say. Sure, I could give you the play-by-play of my daily life with two toddlers pulling me in all directions but how much fun is that to read again and again?
I was hoping for life to slow down a bit after the holidays but with all that is going on here, life is getting busier by the day. Tonight, however, I am going to do a little Weekend Bloghopping with some of my fellow bloggers! BusyDad started The Weekend Bloghoppers a few weeks ago due to many of us being parents and at home on the weekends with our families instead of out bar hopping like we did during those wild and crazy years known as "before kids."
While doing some much needed blog hopping I'll be taking a break to watch the new episodes of Friday Night Lights (I have 2 weeks of catching up to do on the DVR). It's filmed here in Austin and the surrounding areas and it's about high school football in Texas, which is some of the best football there is! I should know since I grew up in Texas. I didn't play football, though, because I would have been snapped like a twig in the first game of the season. I did get to do a lot of screaming and yelling on the sidelines as part of the squad. Not the cheer leading squad but the guys who led the chants and did base stunts with the cheerleaders...OK, maybe some of you would call that cheer leading but we didn't go to competition with the girls and wore boots and jeans to the games! We were cool! I swear!
I can't believe I just let that cat out of the bag.
Ouch! Great football games today and unfortunately (for me and many others) the Cowboys lost to the Giants. Now by default, I have to root for the Packers as they are the team with the best shot of beating the Patriots. I really wanted to see Peyton Manning and the Colts take down Tom & the Brady Bunch, but I'll settle for Brett Favre and a bunch of cheese heads at this point.
Today the kids and I went to check out the new park just south of Lady Bird Lake near downtown Austin. The skies were clear and the view of downtown is outstanding. I took a ton of photos of the kids running around playing but this one was one of my favorites.
Last year I participated in a study about stay-at-home fathers by UT professor, Dr. Aaron Rochlen. Here is the link:
There were 14 dads in Austin that participated on the local level in person but I missed my opportunity when things got busy. I am still honored to be a part of the 214 dads that wanted to give their opinions and insights into a world that is unknown by many, and misunderstood by some. I know about a dozen other dads (online in forums and blogs) in this country that also participated in this study and they are all good men, as I'm sure the other 200 are as well.
Thank you, Dr. Rochlen, for doing the study. Now let's get together for a game of poker!
