The boys and girl will play!
Last week my wife went on an all expenses paid trip to the sunny island of Bermuda! She went for work so it wasn't all play for her. But for us here at Daddyshack, play is all we did! She's been gone on business before but this was the first time it was longer than 3 or 4 days. Yikes! I have great respect for all of the single parents out there that raise kids by themselves. If you are one of those parents, I tip my hat to you.
Since my son was sick for the first few days of her absence, we went to Super Target and bought some Legos and puzzles. Inside play activities were a must or the television was going to explode from overuse. This was my son's first Lego set of his own. He had been using one of my old spaceship sets from my childhood but these were much cooler.
Some of you may recall the poll I did last Monday about my son wanting a Mohawk. Here are the results:
The "yays" beat the "nays" by a wide margin so we went for it! My wife actually didn't mind that I shaved his head and said, "It's his hair. If he doesn't like it it will grow back." World's #1 Mom!
The novelty wore off after the second day and he hasn't wanted it spiked up since. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!
We also dusted off my bicycle and attached the trailer to the back so we could take some bike rides around the neighborhood and to the park. The overwhelming Texas heat made the rides shorter than we wanted but also made the Popsicles when we got home so much more refreshing! Since we have not had much rain here in the month of June we decided to make our own over the trampoline. I'm pretty sure this goes against all safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer but I've got one kid with a Mohawk and another who wishes she had one, too. They are tough. I didn't dare shave her head, though, as I'm sure the above statement by my wife does not include our daughter.
Although we missed her while she was gone
We all survived and had some fun!
Next time she goes I'll have to find new ways
To keep them busy night and day.
