Last year I participated in a study about stay-at-home fathers by UT professor, Dr. Aaron Rochlen. Here is the link:
There were 14 dads in Austin that participated on the local level in person but I missed my opportunity when things got busy. I am still honored to be a part of the 214 dads that wanted to give their opinions and insights into a world that is unknown by many, and misunderstood by some. I know about a dozen other dads (online in forums and blogs) in this country that also participated in this study and they are all good men, as I'm sure the other 200 are as well.
Thank you, Dr. Rochlen, for doing the study. Now let's get together for a game of poker!
This just in on New Year's Day: Beer is good for you! 2008 is shaping up nicely already.
"The plant pigment is found in hops – the main
ingredient in beer. Scientist discovered that Xanthohumol (Xan) is a
powerful antioxidant."
"Preliminary studies at Oregon State University show that Xanthohumol can kill breast, colon, prostate, and ovarian cancers."
"As a result, scientists are now working on ways to
give all beers higher levels of Xanthohumol. They are even looking into
other ways to introduce it to other foods, like chocolate."
My nearest at-home dad friend, Bryan McNeal, started a Project 365 back in September and you can find his photos here on Daddyshack every day. The New School of Photography site that I am a member of has also started a Photo A Day thread in the forum for all to particpate. Seeing Bryan's new photos each day inspired me to start my own project. I'll be adding my own daily shots where you can click them to see the full sizes. Here is the first one. Happy New Year!
Remember when the world communicated only in person or on the
telephone? Our facial expressions and voices relayed our feelings
without any worry of miscommunication. If you were angry or making a
joke it would be obvious by the tone of your voice or the laughter that
would follow.
Then along came email, online forums, and chat boxes. All of the
sudden people didn't have to really talk to each other using their
voices. Forums and chat boxes proved to be useful tools to have conversations with multiple people at once. Sending emails is a
major way of communicating in many workplaces or with friends and
relatives. All of the sudden everybody became so impersonal.
